Dwell Pastor Conrad Hilario will be teaching a new 5-week class on the attributes of God titled, "To Whom Can We Compare Him" starting August 14th.
Conrad answers some questions about his class:
What led you to teach on this topic?
I had a quarter off and was tasked to create a new class. I read every book I could get my hands on, on the topic of God's attributes. I'm convinced that you can tell a lot about a Christian or a church by listening to how they describe or speak about God. Tozer says this:
"We tend by a secret law of the soul to move toward our mental image of God. This is true not only of the individual Christian, but of the company of Christians that composes the Church. Always the most revealing thing about the Church is her idea of God, just as her most significant message is what she says about Him or leaves unsaid, for her silence is often more eloquent than her speech. She can never escape the self-disclosure of her witness concerning God.
Were we able to extract from any man a complete answer to the question, ‘What comes into your mind when you think about God?’ we might predict with certainty the spiritual future of that man. Were we able to know exactly what our most influential religious leaders think of God today, we might be able with some precision to foretell where the Church will stand tomorrow."
What do you hope people come away with from your class?
This has been one of the most challenging and thought-provoking studies I've done in recent memory. I found myself pondering God's character and praising him for his greatness. I hope that this short class will have the same effect on students who attend.
